Vedic Dharma and Varnashrama System
by Srila Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja
Varrnasrama-dharma, the system of four social orders (varnas) and four spiritual orders (asramas), is the only system of social organisation, which enables a person of any class to discharge his occupational duty as a form of devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, thus enabling one to fulfil the ultimate goal of life.
While acknowledging the near impossibility of establishing varnasrama in the modern age, Srila Gour Govinda Swami’s revered spiritual master His Divine Grace Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada cited his spiritual predecessors and put forth a challenging mission for the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement: to revive the varnasrama-dharma social structure and save human society from gliding down to hellish life. Accordingly, Srila Gour Govinda Swami, as always, very strictly following the instructions of his most beloved spiritual master, delivered numerous lectures on this topic.
Vedic Dharma and the Varnasrama System is a series of lectures, elaborating on the purports of Srīla Prabhupada, delivered by His Divine Grace explaining the system of varnasrama-dharma and how it functions in the society, the basic Vedic rules and regulations, and the dharma of each asrama, to assist us on our path of hari-bhajana. His Divine Grace Gour Govinda Swami was a practical teacher, he did not teach only theoretically.
