The compendium concludes with Grandmaster Sunny Tang's special article, "Reflections of Siu Nim Tau After 30 Years."

Item Weight : 2.92 pounds

Hardcover : 528 pages

ISBN-13 : 978-1583941294

Product dimensions : 7.72 x 1.48 x 10.26 inches

Publisher : Blue Snake Books; Illustrated edition (December 15, 2005)

Language: : English

Book Condition: Like new: The book is pre-owned but is like new. In contradistinction to atheistic religions, such as Buddhism and Jainism, there ran a counter movement of religious theism which, as it were, would culminate in the establishment of Bhagavata cult, on the one hand, and, on the other, would terminate in development various Saivite sects. In order to show as to how Bhagavatism gave rise to a full-fledged theistic theology of Vaisnavism, Bhandarkar thoroughly examines the Narayaniya section of the Mahabharata. Likewise does he deal with the development Saivite thought. Even though the book was written at a time when Mohenjo-daro excavations had not been carried out, yet Bhandarkar has thoroughly examined the traces of Saivism in the Vedic hymns, which ultimately would find its full expression in the Svetasvatara Upanisad. Upon locating the sources of Vaisnavism and Saivism within the Vedic literature, Bhandarkar thereby moves on in studying the sects, and their theologies which both the Vaisnavites and Saivites gave rise to. In addition to Vaisnavism and Saivism, Bhandarkar also has made a thorough study of such minor sects as the Saktas, Ganapatyas, and Sauras. The book contains a wealth of information, and the study of it will be an enriching experience to those who are desirous of delving deep in the ancient culture and religious of India.

Cover: Hardcover

Edition: 2001

Publisher: Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers Pvt. His words transport the reader into Srila Prabhupada's association during some of the most historic moments of ISKCON's development and grant entrance into Prabhupada's private quarters to witness his gentle fatherly love toward his young and sometimes perplexed spiritual child. Since then, he has devoted his life to deepening the early transformative experience that marked the beginning of his process of involution. For more than fifty years, he has been exploring and practicing various religions and spiritual paths. For Prabhuji, awakening at the level of consciousness, or the transcendence of the egoic phenomenon, is the next step in humanity's evolution. Prabhuji has chosen to retire from society and lead the life of a hermit. Temples sprang up all over the US and Europe, started by sincere disciples of Srila Prabhupada. They had been inspired by him, especially during the years 1966-1970, to take the Krishna Consciousness movement to every town and village. This was a program of outreach envisioned and predicted by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, the Golden Avatar who appeared in the 15th century. Furthermore, Srila Prabhupada’s worldwide success in spreading the Krishna Consciousness mission was the fulfillment of the desires of his previous spiritual masters coming in the line of Lord Caitanya.

During the zealous revolutionary period that arose from the ashes of the hippie communal movement – which had been rendered disheartened and degraded by a lack of authentic spirituality, extensive drug use and extreme hedonism – real spiritual communism broke forth in the form of the Hare Krishna Explosion. Krishna communities were popping up everywhere, espousing shared assets, powerful spiritual practice and a life of abstinence and joy. It is richly supplemented with 100s of rare photos, Yamuna's calligraphic works, illustrations and art. In Part 1, Yamuna devi meets her spiritual preceptor, Srila Prabhupada, at her sister's wedding in 1966 and begins her first tentative steps in bhakti. In San Francisco she and a group of friends establish a vibrant temple and celebrate Rathayatra. Yamuna is initiated, married and begins cooking for Srila Prabhupada. She, her husband, and two other couples then travel to London and ignite the fire of Sankirtan in England. She records with George Harrison at Apple Studios and helps establish a temple in London. Her Guru's promise to take her to India is fulfilled in 1970, when she travels with the World Sankirtan Party throughout India.
